The path to sustainability through our pets

The path to sustainability through our pets

We often relate the word sustainability to taking care of the environment. It's an important part but is only one of the three pillars. Sustainability is the balance between the environment, economic development, and social equity. It is to recognize that there are limited resources and that we all are connected.

Today we are imbalanced; we consume faster than resources can be renewed, we pollute more than we can clean, and there is significant economic and social inequity. So, what can we do to start on the path towards sustainability? We think we can begin by consuming better.

But is consuming better consuming less? Not necessarily. How not to spoil our pets who give us unconditional love? Sometimes it feels impossible not to buy them 20 toys, their favorite treats, and accessories to make them look cuter. But what if eight or more of those toys have a sustainable value, such as being made of recycled materials, made responsibly by artisans or small businesses? Part of consuming better is supporting sustainable brands.

We are in the process of learning the path to sustainability and looking for pet products to have at least one of our sustainable values to help you decide and consume better. These values are:

Better Material

Better Material

This value represents the sustainable grade of their material; for example, it can be recycled plastic from the ocean, organic, natural, upcycled, or renewable resources.

Low-waste Lifestyle

Low-waste Lifestyle

This value means it reduces waste, as they are made from biodegradable, recyclable, compostable, or plastic-free materials.

Lower Carbon Footprint

Lower Carbon Footprint

This value evaluates if products are produced locally, travel less distance, or reduce CO2 emissions, also if the packaging is optimal and recyclable.

Responsible

Responsible

This value refers to the social and economic role, sustainable manufacturing, and farming; we look for ethically made, fair trade, small-batch, and supporting small businesses.

Sometimes there aren't many sustainable options, but that is changing. Shop sustainable pet products and be part of the solution. Better for your pet. Pawsitive for the planet.
